Individual therapy provides a quiet, safe, and focused environment to address any aspect of the human condition, including substance-misuse, anxiety, depression, and social phobias. As your therapist; I am ethically bound to keep all information that you reveal confidential, so you can be assured that the information will not become public.
My preferred approach to treatment is to utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which posits the notion that our thoughts effect our feelings, which in turn has a significant influence in determining our behaviors.
CBT is generally short-term and solution-focused. It is most often utilized in helping clients deal with a very specific problem. During the course of treatment, people learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on behaviors. The cognitive aspect of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy focuses upon a better understanding of any negative or distorted thoughts that we may have. The behavioral aspect of the therapy works to change negative ways of thinking and counterproductive patterns of behavior that we exhibit throughout the everyday environment.
Cognitive-Behavioral treatment has proved extremely effective working with both adults and teens; those struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobias, substance dependence or other compulsive disorders
such as gambling, eating, spending, or sex ... to name a few.
Given the opportunity, I will dedicate my efforts to assisting you in working through difficulties or issues as quickly as possible. Together we can create a "treatment plan" which identifies specific aspects of yourself that you would like to further develop, adjust, or change. There may also be times when you will be assigned "behavioral homework" to focus upon, the aspects of which can be discussed during your next scheduled individual or group therapy session.
